AMWIK has adopted the concept of community radio listening groups to mobilize community action for social transformation and development. AMWIK focuses on the marginalized parts of Kenya and has a bias to women groups in the pastoral communities especially in the North eastern province of Kenya where infrastructural development is poorest, including access to information and media. In addition these also record the highest statistics of low literacy levels and women are still subjected to negative cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation and early marriage. 

 The concept of Community Radio Listening has enabled AMWIK to reach thousands of community members from different parts of the country beyond the envisaged numbers. It is particularly encouraging to see the communities buying in and owning programmes, acting as sources of information and leading fellow community members to take action to improve their lives and deal with some of the problems they experience in their day to day lives.
