AMWIK and Internews are partnering in four months project on Human Rights Journalism, “Reporting for Human Rights”. Training carried out for 13 journalists between 23 – 30 April 2010.
The goal of the project is to increase the capacity of Kenyan journalists to create quality, relevant, objective, critical, and interesting stories on human rights including women’s such as violence against women and women’s economic empowerment. The expected results include increased quantity and quality of coverage of critical human rights issues;the enhancement of societal dialogue about key human rights concerns for the country/region, and increased engagement of citizens in addressing these issues in the communities. The journalists have each been awarded between US$ 500 to US$1,000 to investigate a human rights story. The journalists are being mentored by AMWIK for each to have quality stories aired/published. The best story will see the winner attend the 2011 Human Rights Watch film’s festival in New York . |
