Rolling out of the Essay Competition PDF Print E-mail

Over the last one year, AMWIK, has been implementing a Women Human Rights Programme  dubbed “Promoting Awareness of Women’s Human Rights through Community Radio Listening and Media in Kenya” aimed at increasing the awareness of women’s human rights in six districts in Kenya namely; Kisumu, Wajir, Naivasha, Kwale, Malindi and Isiolo.  The programme uses human rights advocacy interventions to give a voice to the community and empower women in particular to highlight the injustices perpetrated on them, insist on stronger protection for their human rights whilst placing them in a better position to contribute meaningfully to discussion forums on gender and women’s human rights and sharing of information among themselves.

As part of her advocacy strategy, AMWIK intends to undertake an essay writting competitionwithin these six districts with the following objectives:-

  • Gauge the understanding of the youth aged 11 to 18 years old on Women Human Rights in reference to Gender Based Violence, Women’s Economic Security Rights, Women and Leadership and Governance and any other issue.

  • Contribute to awareness creation on Women Human Rights issues amongst the youth

  • Provoke an interest in women’s rights issues amongst the youth.

Best essays will be documented into a class reader series and shared with other schools and stakeholders.
