AMWIK to hold AGM, Elections

By Manju Khanal All is set for AMWIK’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on Saturday 28th April, 2012 at Meridian Hotel, Nairobi starting 10.00 a.m., during which elections of new board members will be held. Notice for the AGM was issued on Saturday 3rd April, 2012 by the Executive Director Ms Jane Thuo (who is also secretary to the board), in accordance with the AMWIK Constitution which stipulates that this must be done at least 21 days before the event. The called on members wishing to vie for the various posts of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer and six board members to send their expressions of interest before the deadline of Friday 20th April 2012.The prospective contestants were also issued with nomination forms which required them to have a proposer and seconder and endorsement from 10 AMWIK members. Meanwhile, Ms Thuo has sent a plea to members to turn up in large numbers to ensure success of the event.

Nairobi, Kenya 16th March Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Local Government Hon. Musalia Mudavadi on Friday launched a civic education programme that provides the perfect platform for Kenyans to participate in governance.

Speaking on Friday at the launch of the Kenya National Integrated Civic Education Programme-KNICE at KICC, Musalia welcomed the initiative saying it was a good move for the government and the non-state actors to develop a nationally owned and sustainable programme of civic education. The initiative under the ministry of Justice, National cohesion and Constitutional Affairs seeks to roll out a nationwide campaign to sensitive Kenyans on the provisions of the constitution.

“Civic education is essential in creating the necessary civic awareness, reorienting the national psyche for the new dispensation and engendering robust public engagement in the implementation process,” Musalia Said.
