The Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) is a national media association established in 1983 and registered under the Societies Act non-profit organization for women in print and electronic media, communications and public relations practitioners and students of journalism and communication.

We primarily focus on women and use media as a tool to advance issues that affect them, with the recognition that gender inequality and inequity undermines development. We do this by promoting balanced media coverage of women, their concerns and issues as well as building knowledge and understanding of issues affecting women.

All our programmes are implemented through harnessing the skills of our 300 plus members to raise awareness on women’s concerns and further helping them gain visibility in the society, with the overall goal of improving their status and thus Kenya’s overall development.

AMWIK also maintains favorable relations with both electronic and print media, which is very supportive in the implementation of projects undertaken by us.

AMWIK further embraces networking with other organizations to foster collaboration around issues of Peace and Human Rights, Democracy, Governance, Sexual and Gender Based Violence, Sexual Reproductive Health among others.

AMWIK’s main challenge however is ensuring that media outlets positively package and widely disseminate information on issues of national concern in a gender responsive way to enable communities make informed choices.
